The story of Gicopa (GIllard COnfiserie & PAin d’épices) starts in 1895 in central Liège, south-east Belgium. On a daily basis Mr Gillard produces in his workshop sugar based candies, biscuits such as marzipan, macaroons, gingerbread as well as chocolats. Over the years the company becomes gradually more specialised in confectionery, with Gicopa branded products sold nationwide in thousands of small shops as well as at Carrefour, Delhaize and Colruyt.
GICOPA – famous for La Vraie Violette de Liège®
Together with La Violette de Toulouse our Vraie Violette de Liège® is probably the world’s most nostalgic candy. A real Liège specialty, this flower shaped candy is distributed to newly wed couples in the Liège city hall which is called La Violette and situated… rue de la Violette. Gicopa is also well know for it’s large variety of other flavours, as well as the chopped candy sold on street markets. The Very Sour Cherry and the raspberry candy have both been sold for many many decades, as well as liquorice, eucalyptus, the flower mix etc. etc.
130 years later
The producer of artisanal candy is still a totally independent family company. With our 8 employees we continue producing sweets for all and everyone, with respect for our history and with traditional recipes handed over for generations. This total dedication combined with strict quality criteria and modern work ethics makes Gicopa ready for the future.
